Discover Portugal: The Best 2 Weeks in Portugal Itinerary

Portugal! One of my favorite places. If you’re considering Portugal for your next trip or you’ve already decided on visiting, you are in for a treat. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Portugal. However, while you can see highlights of Portugal in one week, two weeks is the perfect amount of time to discover more of Portugal and the beauty it offers. This post will give you my recommendations for an amazing 2 weeks in Portugal itinerary.

Praca do Comercio, Lisbon

This 2 week Portugal itinerary will incorporate city, beaches, palaces, hiking and more. If you’ve followed along on my travels, you’ll know I try to incorporate as much as possible during my trips. However, recently, I’ve noticed I prefer to take things at a slower pace when I’m traveling. It allows me to get to know the area a bit more and experience it on a different level.

This itinerary will focus on Lisbon and southern Portugal, Algarve. It allows you to see more of these areas without having to rush to different cities in a short amount of time. This was my own personal itinerary for my first trip to Portugal and it was an amazing trip.

Post-lunch, wander through the enchanting streets of Alfama, embracing its winding and uphill alleys.

Lisbon boasts numerous miradouros (viewpoints), and your first day should include a visit to some. Take in the breathtaking panoramas the city has to offer.

For those with extra energy, venture to Graça for more spectacular viewpoints. Miradouro das Portas do Sol and Miradouro da Senhora do Monte are top recommendations, conveniently explored on the same day with just a 17-minute walk between them.

Rest at your hotel before an evening Fado show in Alfama. Wander through Old Alfama Square and let the narrow streets guide you to an authentic Fado experience whenever you feel ready.

Welcome to the heart of Lisbon!

Day 2 – Baixa & Chiado, Cais do Sodre, and Parque Eduardo

Wrap up your day at the expansive Parque Eduardo, the largest park in central Lisbon. Positioned on a hill, the park provides both a serene environment and panoramic views of the cityscape.

Day 3 – Belem & Alcantara, & Parque das Nacoes

2 weeks in Portugal itinerary - Belem Tower
Belem Tower

Start your day visiting Torre de Belem, or Belem Tower. Torre de Belem used to serve as fort to protect Lisbon’s port in the 16th century. The tower is free to visit, but if you’re looking to tour the inside, there is a cost of 6 euros.

After Belem, walk along the Tagus River where there is a walking path. This is a nice place to take in the view of the river with the bridge, the Ponte 25 de Abril, in the backdrop.

two weeks in Portugal itinerary - LX factory
Ler Devagar bookstar, Alcantara

After Belem, head to LX Factory in Alcantara. LX Factory is a trendy, artsy area with restaurants and shops. I’d recommend having lunch in one of the many restaurants, wonder the streets, and visit Ler Devagar bookstore.

Pasteis de Belem

After LX Factory, make your way to Pasteis de Belem. It’s known to be where the pastel de nata originated. Many will also argue that Pasteis de Belem has the best pastel de natas in Lisbon. So good!

Day 4 – Principe Real, Santos, Barrio Alto

2 weeks in Portugal - Principe Real
streets of Principe Real

Begin your day in Principe Real. Principe Real is a great neighborhood to just wander. the streets and take in the feel of Lisbon. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours in Principe Real. Stop by one of the many cafes here for an espresso. See my post here for the best cafes in Lisbon.

If you’re visiting Principe Real in the afternoon and in the mood for great gelato, try Nivà Cremeria Gelateria Italiana. Oyster & Margarita is also a great spot for an afternoon drink with oysters or a late night drink.

Finally, I would highly suggest visiting Principe Real at night to experience the restaurant/bar nightlife. It’s more of a chill vibe compared to the craziness of Barrio Alto. I would recommend my favorite wine bar, Black Sheep Lisboa, or Magnolia Bistrot & Winebar. If you want some live music, check out Flores da Pampa in Principe Real.

After spending time in Principe Real, walk over to Santos, another district in Lisbon. Santos is about a 10 minute walk from Principe Real. The walk is all down hill at this point (finally!).

Santos is great to just walk around as there are so many narrow streets, shops, restaurants and bars. It’s also a great place to hang out at night if you’re looking for a night out.

Day 10 – Beach day Praia do Camilo

Relax and unwind on the golden sands of Praia do Camilo. This was one of my favorite beaches of the beaches I saw during my hike. It’s on the smaller side so be prepared to be close to others on the sand. That’s pretty typical though on most popular European beaches. Keep in mind that Portugal beaches are very cold. Nonetheless, the beach itself and views were amazing.
